What is a Skin Care Regimen?
A Skin Care Regimen is the process of cleansing, toning and moisturizing the face and neck area. This is a significant process which should be done twice daily - once in the morning and once at night for the best skin care. Skin care regimens should be designed to meet the specific needs of each skin type: dry, oily, normal, combination, sensitive and anti-aging skin.
Step 1: Facial Cleansing
Choose a facial cleanser that is made for your skin type. Dampen your face with lukewarm water to open your pours. Lather the facial cleanser in your clean hands and scrub your face and neck area. Rinse thoroughly with warm water to clean out your pours. We recommend using an all natural or organic facial cleanser to avoid putting harmful toxins into your skin. Step 2: Facial Toning
Perhaps the mostly commonly misunderstood step, facial toning in laymen's terms clears the pours and reduces their size to prevent bacteria from getting back into the pours - in a matter of seconds! After cleansing, either spray the facial toner on your face or soak a cotton swab with the toner and to rub it onto your face and neck area in circular motions.
Our facial toners have natural astringents in them which helps to clear clogged pours. They come in all different levels of to meet the specific needs of your skin type. For example: a facial toner for oily skin will help reduce oil production. Overall, the facial toners we carry clear pours, reduce pour size, soothe skin, reduce inflammation, are natural anti-septic and much more.Click here to view all of our facial toners.
Step 3: Facial Moisturizing
Choose a facial moisturizer cream for you skin type. Moisturizing your skin is an essential part of skin care, even if you have oily or acne prone skin. After toning, the face and neck area is better prepared to absorb moisture. Apply a layer all over skin and allow it to fully absorb before applying any makeup. Since the skin will absorb virtually what ever moisturizer you put on it, we recommend choosing a facial cream with heathful, all natural or organic ingredients for the best skin care results.
After your skin care regimen is finished, your skin should feel slightly sticky or dewey to the touch. This is a basic rule of thumb test for health skin care.

Defining Your Skin Type
Proper skin care is so imporant, especially when it comes to your face. The first step of facial skin care is to define your skin type. Once you define your skin type, it is much easier to choose skin care products. See below for Cosmetics Kitchen's list of skin types.
Normal Skin
Normal skin is generally balanced with an overall soft, comfortable feeling. Normal skin does not feel extremely oily or dry, but at times it can have a slightly oily or dry imbalance.
Normal Skin can be maintained by following a regular skin care regimen that includes cleansing, toning, and moisturizing. If skin becomes unbalanced in certain areas, the area can be treated when necessary with products for the specific skin care problem. Normal Skin Care Products.
Oily Skin
Oily skin types have excessive oil production which leaves skin feeling greasy. People with oily skin tend to have shiny skin with larger pores. Because of the excess oil and clogged pours, oily skin types are more prone to breakouts and blemishes.
The key to treating oily skin is to reduce the level of oil production. This in turn will help clear clogged pours which can cause blemishes. We recommend regular cleansing, toning, and exfoliating with skin care products that have deep cleansing abilities and an anti-septic to help prevent infection. Since it is important to have some natural oils, we also suggest moisturizing with a lightweight lotion that is made for oily skin types. Oily Skin Care Products.
Dry Skin
Dry skin lacks moisture, and therefore can be flaky, tight, sensitive and/or chapped. Dry skin can also cause the skin’s appearance to look pre-maturely aged and wrinkled since there is little to no oil present.
When handling dry skin, it is important to make sure that you are properly hydrated. Skin can become dehydrated, making it appear to be dry, which is why drinking water is so important. We recommend using beauty products that are mild, gentle and moisturizing to help balance and soften dry skin.Dry Skin Care Products.
Combination Skin
Combination skin means your skin is a combination of skin types. Different areas of your skin can be oily, dry, and/or normal at one time. With this skin type, the t-zone (forehead, nose, & area around your mouth including chin) tends to be oily with larger pours, while the cheeks and outer face are normal or dry with medium to small pours.
For combination skin, we recommend purchasing skin care products that balance your skin. Using a skin care regimen which includes daily deep-cleansing, toning, & moisturizing and weekly or bi-weekly exfoliation, can help reduce oil production, clear away dead skin and hydrate dry areas. It is important to make sure that you are not removing all of moisture or putting too much moisture on. Remember –it’s all about balance! Combination Skin Care Products.
